Root Canal Treatment

Root Canal Treatment

A root canal treatment tackles the infection and stops it spreading by cleaning out and filling the tooth.

About the service

Root canal treatment

Your dentist may suggest RCT if there is inflammation or infection inside of the tooth/teeth. If your tooth becomes damaged, bacteria can get inside, causing irritation, pain, and swelling. If the pulp inside the tooth becomes infected, it can spread into the pulp inside the root canal.

Why might I need RCT?

  • Severe tooth decay
  • Repeated dental treatment on the same tooth
  • A cracked tooth
  • A broken crown
  • Cracked or loose fillings
  • Gum disease
  • An injury to the mouth

Does Root canal treatment hurt?

Root canal treatment isn't painful, a local anaesthetic is used during treatment and it shouldn't feel too different from a filling. You may experience some tenderness around the area after treatment but this is only for a short period.

5 Signs of Dental Infection

  • Severe toothache when eating or with pressure on the tooth.
  • Extremely sensitivity. Does the sensitivity linger after the initial contact with hot or cold foods or drinks?
  • Darkening of your tooth, have you noticed it changes colour?
  • A small bump on the gum close to the painful tooth.
  • Tender or swollen gums around the tooth.

If the infection is left untreated, it can spread further and cause an abscess. This can be very painful and tender and cause swelling around the tooth and jaw.
